Jennifer Tankersley, Principal

Jennifer Tankersley was one of the founding thought-partners that created the NP Strategies concept. She brings a unique combination of expertise in business strategy with experience and passion for the social sector. Before starting NP Strategies, Jennifer worked as an independent consultant to San Diego's nonprofit sector and served Fortune 500 clients as a management consultant at The Boston Consulting Group, where she developed and implemented business and operational strategies, as well as supported organizational change.  Her clients have encompassed nearly all facets of the nonprofit sector including community development, arts, education, scientific research, social service and youth development.


Jennifer has an MBA with an emphasis in Strategy and Marketing, from the Anderson School at UCLA and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Scripps College with a BA in Economics and International Relations.  Jennifer was a founding board member of the Del Mar Pines Foundation for Education and has served on the boards of National Charity League and Clothes the Deal.  She lives in Carmel Valley with her husband and three children.

 

Rebecca Alvarez, Principal

As co-founder of NP Strategies, Rebecca Alvarez is committed to combining her business and nonprofit experience to help nonprofits reach higher levels of performance and impact. Prior to forming NP Strategies, Rebecca was the Manager of Consulting at Bainbridge, Inc.  In this capacity, she was responsible for quality control across all market research and strategy projects, client relationship management and sales.  She also led market research and strategy projects for the firm's Fortune 1000 client base.  Since forming NP Strategies, Rebecca has consulted with clients on a range of issues including sustainability, business planning and strategy, market research, impact evaluation and organizational change. Her clients have encompassed nearly all facets of the nonprofit sector including community development, arts, education, scientific research, youth development and economic development.

Rebecca earned her BA degree in Spanish and International Relations from The University of Delaware. She has a Master's in International Management from the University of California, San Diego. She serves as a panel member at Career Services events and as a judge for student presentations in her graduate school’s business-focused classes. Rebecca also serves on the San Diego Young Nonprofit Professionals Network's (YNPN) Community Council, which is comprised of seasoned nonprofit leaders lending guidance and advice for YNPN's development and growth.  Rebecca lives in Encinitas with her husband and two children.

 

 

Karen Trissel, Principal

Karen Trissel blends a unique combination of business and marketing strategy expertise with experience and passion for the nonprofit sector.  Karen began her career at General Mills, where she managed some of the company’s largest brands, including Honey Nut Cheerios and Pop Secret Popcorn. She then went to Jack in the Box and in her most recent position served as Corporate Vice President, Brand Strategy and Product Development.  Karen's nonprofit consulting engagements have spanned nearly all areas of the sector, including human services, arts, environment and community development.  Karen specializes in conducting comprehensive market, customer, industry and competitive assessments and then developing sound business-building strategies and plans.

Karen has an MBA with an emphasis in strategy and marketing from the Anderson School of Management at UCLA and graduated summa cum laude from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo with a degree in Business Administration. In addition to her consulting practice, Karen’s volunteer activities include serving for 3 years as President of the Solana Beach Foundation for Learning, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that raises over $600,000 annually for children’s educational programs. Karen lives in San Diego with her husband and two children.
